After becoming a parent, Jessica Alba realised there was very little information about what went into the products routinely used around babies. She created The Honest Company to help parents know what ingredients and chemicals are used in baby food, diapers and accessories. The Honest Company is a collection of toxin-free household goods, diapers, and body care products.
“I wanted to make it easier for myself — and for all families — to have safe, beautifully designed, affordable products that actually worked.”
“As I did due diligence in the ‘Eco’ marketplace, I saw there was a social injustice that the average family couldn’t easily find or purchase healthy products. So, I created Honest.com because, as a mom, I needed it, wanted it, and believed we could make the world a better place for my children and families everywhere.”
Alba has announced that she will be releasing a book, The Honest Life, based on her experiences creating a natural, non-toxic life for her family. The book is slated for release during 2013.
The lesson? Often the best business ideas are born from our own frustrations. If something bugs you, chances are, there’s a market for the solution.
The world is full of problems that need to be solved. Keep a list of all the things you believe could be done better, as well as jobs that others have abandoned, ignored or failed to address. There might just be a great business idea in the wings.
