How can I make legal new years’ resolutions for my business?

I have a list of goals that I’d like my business to reach during 2014, are there any other areas that I need to address before I start planning how we’re going to achieve them?

Business owners start off the new year filled with enthusiasm accompanied by lists of goals that they’d like their business to achieve by the end of the year. However, what they often don’t think about is protecting the business against the risk that may be incurred in reaching some of those goals.

It’s as important to set legal goals as it is to set sales or marketing ones. Here are just a few ways in which you can get your legal house in order:

  • Get all of your existing and new contracts looked at by a lawyer
  • Hand over outstanding accounts for collection
  • When negotiating payment terms with customers or suppliers, get a lawyer to check anything before you sign on the dotted line
  • Draw up a will.
