A New Way Around Town

A New Way Around Town

This kind of transport is typically associated with the bustling, traffic-packed streets of South East Asia, rather than the posh streets of Sandton: we’re talking about Tuk Tuks.

This week saw the launch of a partnership between the Old Mutual Foundation and Shesha Tuks, in a combined effort to showcase corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives, innovative marketing, and supporting local business growth.

Inspired partnership

The Old Mutual Foundation focuses on enabling positive futures for previously disadvantaged communities across the country. Shirley Koaho, Old Mutual’s general manager for marketing, says: “This is an opportunity to inspire commuters and business travelers about to help change the lives of disadvantaged people.

Rather than simply being a branding exercise, we hope that these examples will inspire others to build partnerships that help ordinary people do great things.”

“The need for social and economic development in SA is so great that no single agency, government department or civil society can achieve a significant change on its own. But partnerships like this can help build economically viable communities and bring dignity and livelihoods to thousands of people,” Koaho continues.

Shesha Tuks currently has 25 drivers and landing a partnership with Old Mutual is a prime example of corporates enabling SME growth in South Africa. To encourage commuters to try out this zippy form of transport, for the first two weeks, Tuk Tuk rides are free to all commuters around Sandton CBD. From there, fares will range from R25 to R35.
