The web’s worldwide influence has reached millions of people who use the service daily for business and entertainment. Rather appropriately, the web’s founder, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, played a role in the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony in London. Around the world the special celebration is being marked in various ways.

Locally, financial services provider Moneysmart is celebrating the 21st birthday of the worldwide web with a competition. Entrants are invited to post a tribute to the web and its inventor via the Moneysmart Facebook competition or tweet their tribute. The most creative and original birthday message will win R10 000.

The financial service shares the birthday with the web as 6 August also marks the birth date of the new and improved Moneysmart.
