The first official flight offering Premium Economy Class operated on 9 August from Singapore to Sydney. The new cabin class will subsequently be made available to other destinations served by the Airline’s Airbus A380s, Boeing 777-300ERs and the new A350.
Singapore Airlines incorporated many suggestions from its customers when designing the new cabin class, in terms of seat and cabin design. These include:
- A seat pitch of 38 inches and a width ranging between 18,5 and 19,5 inches.
- An eight-inch recline for more ease and comfort.
- An individual in-seat power supply, two USB ports, personal in-seat reading light, cocktail table, and additional stowage space for personal items such as a water bottle and mobile device.
- Soft furnishings such as a headrest cover, cushion and blanket which come in specially selected and matching colours.
- Full leather finishing and a calf-rest and foot-bar for every seat.
Choose from an extensive range of food and beverage offerings when flying in Premium Economy Class. Besides a standard menu with three meal choices, customers may select from the ‘Premium Economy Book the Cook’ service featuring popular dishes, such as seafood thermidor, roasted chicken in garlic cream sauce, rosemary beef brisket, roasted chicken rice, pork congee with century egg, spiced chicken nasi biryani, nasi lemak with fried chicken, and pancakes with maple syrup and scrambled eggs.
Ernest Rapeneau Brut Prestige champagne and a selection of curated wines are also available throughout the flight on all routes offering Premium Economy.
A sleek 13,3-inch full HD monitor, the largest in its class, as well as active noise-cancelling headphones await customers travelling in the new cabin class.
Premium Economy Class will feature the next-generation KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’ award-winning in-flight entertainment system. It is based on hardware from Panasonic Avionics, with a customised user interface and a large selection of content.
Singapore Airlines worked with renowned design company Massive Interactive to seamlessly integrate the functionality of a video touch-screen handset into the core design of a new, innovative user interface to ensure that navigating through menus and programmes is intuitive and user friendly.
Priority check-in and baggage handling will be offered to customers travelling in Premium Economy Class, in addition to
a baggage allowance of 35kg. KrisFlyer members will receive 10% more miles when they fly in Premium Economy Class.
Singapore Airlines’ A350-900s to serve South Africa
Johannesburg became the second long-haul destination in Singapore Airlines’ route network to be served by the latest-generation Airbus A350-900 fleet, with effect from 27 June 2016.
The A350 has been deployed on flights serving the Singapore-Johannesburg route on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Frequency of A350-900 services will progressively increase to cover all seven weekly Johannesburg flights, including four weekly flights which continue to Cape Town.
With advanced technology and superior operating efficiency, the newest addition to the Airline’s fleet will offer customers an improved travelling experience with features such as higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra wide body and lighting designed to reduce jetlag.
Customers can enjoy the Airline’s latest-generation cabin products on the A350-900 aircraft. This includes all-new Business, Premium Economy and Economy class seats, as well as the award-winning KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system.
Singapore Airlines’ initial batch of A350s are being fitted with 253 seats in three classes, seating 42 customers in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy Class and 187 in Economy Class.
