How do you get an entire country to turn off its lights for an hour? To promote EarthHour in Switzerland, the World Wildlife Foundation used an interesting ambient marketing approach and applied light switch stickers to lamp posts in various towns.

By placing their stickers in unusual places, people wanted to inspect them closer, which allowed them to read the reminder of EarthHour.

Ambient marketing relies on non-traditional or alternative media. The key is to choose the best media format available and combined with effective message.

This year, Apple unseated Coca-Cola from the top of the Beast Global Brands list. The beverage company had occupied this position for 13 years consecutively.

Apple has appeared on Interbrand’s Best Global Brands ranking since 2000, when the ranking first debuted.
