One morning Theo Mothoa-Frendo was looking at her personal skin care regime and thought to herself: “How is it possible that one person can own so many skin-care brands, and how is it that so many of my skin-care brands are foreign?” She decided to launch her own skin care brand that targets women with dark skin.

Mothoa-Frendo used her 10 years’ experience working as a medical director for pharmaceutical firm Roche, to develop Uso. It launched in 2017, with a week-long pop-up shop in Sandton City where women were offered skin consultations with qualified skin therapists.
Using her contacts from her years in pharmaceuticals she has been able to expand and grow her brand. Mothoa-Frendo already sells Uso in neighbouring countries through its online store.
