Business Overview

Tap into the highly lucrative dog grooming industry by becoming a dog groomer, or as groomers prefer to be called, a canine cosmetologist. There are an estimated 30,000,000 pet dogs in North America, and most owners think nothing of spending a bundle on a regular basis to keep their pampered pooches well-groomed.

Not all dog groomers are professionally trained and certified. I do recommend, however, that you invest in the training to become a professional dog groomer if this is a service you want to sell. Dog owners are a conscientious bunch and most do not like to leave their best friends in the care of the inexperienced.

Both of the associations listed below offer dog grooming training workshops and exams across the United States and Canada to become a Certified Master Groomer. This is a service you can easily operate from a homebased grooming studio, or a commercial storefront. You might even want to consider a mobile operation so you can service clients who don’t have transportation, or who have dogs with health problems that keep them from traveling. The profit potential is excellent, as many groomers report earnings in the range of $50,000 after expenses.

Business Overview

As an animal lover, I cannot imagine a business that would be more fun and rewarding than operating a pet photography service. Unfortunately, I am not a very good photographer, but if you are and you love pets, then what are you waiting for? Start a pet photography service!
Owners of dogs, cats, reptiles, horses, champion livestock, birds, and even fish can all be potential customers. Full-time or part-time, operate the service on a mobile basis, from a homebased studio, or from pet shops, or combine all to cover all the bases.
Making the experience fun for pets and their owners will also go a long way toward securing repeat business and a ton of referrals, so liven things up with pet costumes, themed backdrops, and by offering pet videotaping services, complete with music, titles, and special effects. Likewise, to boost profit potential also offer a wide assortment of products that customers can have their pets’ photographic images transferred onto’key tags, greeting cards, calendars, mugs, hats, T-shirts, sports bags, and bumper stickers.

Business Overview

There is something special about a petting zoo that lures both children and their parents. Starting and running a petting zoo is certainly not for everyone, as a petting zoo requires a great deal of knowledge and special handling skills in terms of the animals.

Additionally, this type of business can be somewhat costly to start and operate. However, a properly established and managed petting zoo business, whether operated from a fixed or portable location, can be both a personally and financially rewarding business to own and operate. Traditionally, popular animals featured in a petting zoo have always been sheep, deer, ponies and rabbits.

Business Overview

Designing, manufacturing, and wholesaling pet toys could put you on the path to financial freedom, and best of all this is a business opportunity that can be started part-time from home on a minimal initial investment. There are literally thousands of different pet toys on the market and this is definitely a situation where it is not important that you build it first, only better.

The toys can be sold on a wholesale basis to pet retailers, or even directly to consumers via the Internet and mail order. I purchased two glow-in-the-dark balls for my dog from a man who was selling them right out of a knapsack in the park. The key to success in this type of business is to have a high-quality toy and the ability to get the pet toy in front of as many potential customers as possible.

Remember, pets are like children to most people and generally people will spare no expense when it comes to the happiness of their pets. That is why starting any new business that involves pets, or that is related to pets in any way, has already got a head start on the road to financial success.
