Founded by Paul Leaf-Wright and Jacqui Hathorn, Leaf Capital is a niche financial advisory practice and advises on mid to top tier transactions, serving organisations that are not traditionally serviced by the large investment banks. After the establishment of its fund management arm in 2007, Leaf Capital is able to invest third party funds. Two funds were launched, one participating in non-listed private equity investments and the other in structured finance opportunities. Leaf Capital also has an interest in the management of S.A.Prime Property Limited, a property loan stock company.
Leaf Capital’s first private equity fund, The Leaf Private Equity No. 1 en commandite Partnership (“LPE1”), is currently in its third year of management and has successfully entered into four investments.
LPE1 has committed capital of R115 million and primarily seeks investments in established operating companies where it is able to empower the existing management of the company and also add to the growth through the experience and expertise of the fund management team. It is expected that LPE1 will be fully invested in the first quarter of 2011 and, owing to the good deal-flow experienced, the fund managers expect to launch a second fund during the course of 2011.
